99 Minutes: The Run Time That Should Not Exist
If you have 99 minutes “in the can” to work with you probably have 100. Why would you not give the buffs that extra minute.
The only exception is movies released in the year ’99 (1999), where they did it so the year matches the run time.
It is ironic that the movie “57 Minutes” lasted 99 minutes!
It is possible to turn a 99 Minute movie into a 100 Minute movie by repeating a scene or playing the credits at a slower speed. While not a totally “legit” thing to do, it does make it easier when trying to program 200 minutes of movies at a film buff’s get together, so you can program two 100 minute movies easily, and not have to find a 101 Minute movie to go with a 99.
Morgan Freeman has made the most 99 minute movies of any acctor and should be in the Guinness Book for this record. It’s crazy to think that the Directors could not figure out how to film Morgan Freeman for one more minute! But they didn’t. Still, see these movies if you can.
